To join the Financial Planners Association of Puget Sound Chapter, you must become a member of the national Financial Planners Association. Learn more about the latest membership types below. 

Once you have joined, you can then select FPA of Puget Sound as your designated Chapter. (Designations are based on zip code.) There are no additional dues to join our local chapter. Once you have become a part of our member community, you will gain access to all FPA benefits as well as our specific Chapter benefits.

Changes to FPA Membership in 2022

FPA is your partner in planning and we are excited to announce that there have been a few changes in FPA membership. Prior to 2022 FPA had a total of eight membership types: CFP® Professional, New to the Profession, Allied Professional – Practicing Planner, Allied Professional - Support, Aspiring Financial Planner, Academic, Member Emeritus, International Professional. In 2022, this long list was simplified down to just five membership types. As an individual, you are now able to join FPA or renew your membership in one of the following five membership categories.

Member Types at a Glance

CFP® Professional

You are a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™.

Allied Professional

You work in a role critical to the financial planning profession or hold a position in financial planning or financial services. You do not have an active CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ certification.

Aspiring Financial Planner

You do not yet work in financial planning or financial services but aspire to hold a position. This membership type may be held for a maximum of four years.

Academic

You teach full-time in a financial planning-related degree or certificate program at the graduate, undergraduate, or high school level. 

Member Emeritus

You are a retired financial planning professional and work no more than 20 hours per week.

*Newly certified discount (years 1-3) in CFP® Professional Type

Did You Recently Join FPA?

If you recently joined FPA and designated FPA of Puget Sound as your home chapter, but have not received a welcome message please contact our office via email [email protected] and include your proof of membership with FPA. We will set up your login and create your profile for our chapter. Chapter imports from FPA are done once a month.
